What can be hectic?
Her are many aspects that can be hectic when being with ISP. So you must consider following issues:
Big doesn't prove better
A bigger ISP with millions of use doesn't prove it a better provider; a smaller ISP with a few thousand customers could be a better bet, especially for a dial-up account or a small business.
Bigger can be better, of course, if you need a single source for multiple services. A provider that offers just about everything under the sun: dial-up, DSL, T1, wireless services, and more should be better.
Remain known
When choosing your ISP beware because some ISPs might be acquired or sold. Some bigger ISPs like EarthLink and MSN, buying smaller ISPs in order o stay competitive. So if you can then avoid such smaller ISPs that can b soled or acquired.
Always prefer provider in Neighbor
If you get services from providers that are far away from your office or home then there could be a headache always, i.e. if company advertise 1.5Mps speed for a DSL connection and your office or home is more than three miles away from provider's setup, then you will get half speed than that they showed in advertise. It could be more hectic less if you try to figure out some ISP that is closer to your home or working setup.
Don't pay list price
If you can find more then one provider in your area then you can get an edge, don't pay price that is listed by the company, always try to get discount, go at all the providers and ask then about your needs and rates, after bargaining ten choose discounted provider.
Avoid free trials
There are number of providers who offer free trial for a month and also take your credit card number, so it is recommended to avoid that kind of providers, because if you forgot to cancel your account or you delayed in informing them to disconnect your connection after trial then they will charge you for next month after expiration of trial.
Use the provider's hardware
Try to use hardware i.e. modem, router etc of provider, ask if they offer it must use them because configuration and troubleshooting would be easy and free in future.
DSL flavors
If you decided to get DSL connection then keep in mind that not all DSL are same, Residential DSL is typically ADSL, which is usually limited to speeds of 128Kbps or 256Kbps upstream and 1.5Mbps downstream. Symmetric DSL (SDSL) is used by businesses that need a reliable connection, with matching speeds in both directions. Speeds range from 144Kbps to 1.5Mbps
Can you back out?
Whenever you go in search for ISP and near to sign up, it is important to make sure, does ISP offers 30 days money back guarantee? Mean to say if you didn't satisfied with services offered by company could u roll back? Without any plenty charges or in either way, check for early termination fees.
Always on, Always vulnerable
24-hour access means your connection will remain always on, so how much your connection will remain on that much threat is there from hackers who might be snooping around your PC even if your ISP provides firewall or anti spam, and antivirus protection tools at its end. But if you need proper protection then you have to get them on your end.
