  • WAP - (Wireless Application Protocol) The Wireless Application Protocol is a secure specification that allows users to access information instantly via handheld wireless devices such as mobile phones, pagers, two-way radios, smart phones and communicators.

  • Web Developer - A Web developer can also be a Web designer, but a Web developer typically has more database, CGI, and engineering experience. He or she develops the interface between the front and back end of a website.

  • Web Folder - A Web Folder is a directory on your computer that acts as a shortcut to your web site. Web Folders, which are supported on Windows OS computers (the equivalent feature on a Macintosh is called WebDAV) make it possible for you to browse your files on a web server the same way you'd browse files and folders saved on your own computer. You can save your web site files in your Web Folder, then use FrontPage's "Publish" button to upload these files to your web site.

  • Web Forwarding - A service that points a domain name to an existing Web site address. Web forwarding lets you register a domain name (such as "mycompany.com") and attach it to an existing Web site (such as "http://www.aol.com/members/mycompany9876").

  • Web Server - A computer, including software package that provides a specific kind of service to client software running on other computers. More specifically, a server is a computer that manages and shares web based applications accessible anytime from any computer connected to the Internet.

  • Web-based Email - Allows you to read email anywhere in the world from any PC that has an Internet connection and a web browser.

  • Webmaster - The person responsible for maintaining and updating a Web site.

  • Website Administrator - A person registered with the domain registrar as a contact able to make changes to your domain name information. The registered technical contact can also request changes.

  • WHOIS - WHOIS databases contain nameserver, registrar, and in some cases, full contact information about a domain name. Each registrar must maintain a WHOIS database containing all contact information for the domains they 'host'. A central registry WHOIS database is maintained by the InterNIC. This database contains only registrar and nameserver information for all .com, .net and .org domains.
